Good reasons to think about the certification of your products

Around 30 % of the Swiss population is affected by an allergy or intolerance. This means that about 3,000,000 people in Switzerland are affected, and the trend is rising.

A disproportionate number of children and adolescents are affected by food allergies and intolerances. As a result, the social environment (family, kindergarten, school) is also facing particular challenges. Therefore, larger target groups are indirectly affected and are very much interested in products suitable for allergies and intolerances.

Products and services with the Allergy Label of Quality offer affected people additional benefits, increase their safety and simplify their everyday life.

The requirements for obtaining the Allergy Seal of Quality

In order for food and beverages to be certified, at least one allergy-inducing ingredient (e.g. gluten or lactose) must be demonstrably removed using suitable processes so that a certain limit value is not exceeded. The organisation must also have an appropriate allergen management system in place. Under certain conditions, food and beverages that do not naturally contain the allergy-inducing substance can also be certified.

Frequently asked questions

In order to receive certification, a company that manufactures products with the Allergy Seal of Quality or that offers certified services must demonstrate and have implemented an allergen management system in accordance with the specifications of an HACCP concept.

In order for food and beverages to be certified, at least one allergenic or intolerance-causing ingredient (e.g., gluten or celery by suitable processes) must be demonstrably removed or replaced. Service Allergie Suisse checks which allergens are not contained in the product, using clear and measurable values. The absence of this allergen may be clearly highlighted on the packaging.

The Allergy Seal of Quality does not indicate that the product is safe for all allergies and intolerances. We therefore recommend that you always check the claims (e.g. "lactose-free", without celery") on the packaging.

Products with the Allergy Seal of Quality never have traces of the allergen that is being advertised. For example, traces of wheat or spelt are not allowed in gluten-free foods. However, certified products may contain traces of other allergenic ingredients.
